The church is dedicated to Saint Mamas, one of the youngest and most beloved martyrs of the Orthodox Christian faith. Born in Paphlagonia around 260 AD, Saint Mamas was the son of Christian parents who were imprisoned and died for their faith. Raised by a devout widow after becoming an orphan, he devoted his short life to Christianity and became known for his compassion, courage, and unwavering faith.
According to Christian tradition, Saint Mamas was arrested during the Roman persecutions and suffered severe torture before being martyred at only 15 years of age. Today, he is venerated throughout Cyprus and many other Orthodox countries as the patron saint of children, shepherds, and those seeking protection and strength.
